My life has been so incredibly filled with cute lately, and I want to dedicate today’s blog post to that cuteness. Allow me to present our newest addition to the family, Calvin.
My boyfriend and I have been considering getting a second kitten for a long time now, and for a number of reasons, and I’m so glad we finally did. One of our reasons for adopting another cat was that our life was decidedly lacking in chaos and knocked-over knickknacks. Another reason was that I was worried my 4 year old cat Ezra was lonely during the day and needed a friend.
Also, kittens are fun and awesome and I thought a kitten would be a great birthday gift for Javi. So we went through a local agency that helps connect pet-lovers with rescue animals and found our beautiful Calvin. He was 14 weeks old when we brought him home.
It’s always nerve-wracking to bring a new kitten into your house, but within 1 hour of being in our apartment, Calvin already felt like he owned the place. He’s incredibly energetic, smart, and curious. He’s also a cuddly lap kitty, which is wonderful.
Javi chose the name Calvin because of his love for the cartoon Calvin and Hobbes. Together they are Calvin and Javs.
One surprise we were not expecting was that Calvin has an actual breed. We’re pretty sure he is an Egyptian Mau, although he may not be a purebred. Egyptian Maus are one of the fastest breeds of cats, and they can run up to 30 miles an hour! Plus, they have very iconic markings, all of which Calvin has.
It’s been just a bit over 3 weeks since we brought Calvin into our home, and he’s definitely made our lives a little more wild. He and Ezra are finally getting used to each other, and hopefully they will become close friends.
For now, they spend their days chasing each other around the house and stealing each other’s food. It’s only a matter of time before they’re inseparable, right?
